<p><p>So here’s a gentle nudge to take it one step further, let’s turn intention into action.</p>
<p><p>Even a 5-minute practice can clear the fog and restore focus. Here’s a little ritual to try this week:</p>
<p><p><strong>Pause + Breathe:</strong></p>
<p>
Find a quiet spot. Close your eyes. Take 5 slow breaths. With each exhale, imagine releasing the mental clutter. Observe when your body naturally wants to take the next breath and reconnect to its built in pattern. This can bring you back into balance and calm your brain.</p>
<p><strong>Move with Meaning:</strong></p>
<p><p>Walk barefoot in your garden. Stretch while you are waiting for tea or coffee to brew. Let your body remind your brain that it&#8217;s safe to relax and soften the tension from your muscles.  Remember it is ok to feel great and just be.</p>

<p>As I navigate the slopes in minus ten degrees, surrounded by fresh layers of snow, I’m reminded of something powerful: No matter where we are or what challenges arise, we have an inner strength that keeps us grounded.</p>
<p>Just as the snow softens and unifies the world, we too can approach life’s obstacles with calm and clarity. This week, I shared a parallel between skiing and life—on the slopes, we adjust our stance to find balance. In life, we do the same, navigating unexpected turns, finding stability, and learning from every fall.</p>
<p>Skiing, like life, teaches us that resistance makes the journey harder. The more we fight against what is, the more we lose our flow. But when we trust the process, lean into the moment, and adjust with ease, we gain control by letting go.</p>
<p>The journey isn’t about being the best; it’s about growing into our own unique strengths. Every challenge is an opportunity to realign, adjust, and evolve. True mastery comes not from avoiding difficulty but from embracing it—learning to bend rather than break, shift rather than stall, and move forward even when the path is uncertain.</p>

<h3>WHAT IS SELF MASTERY?</h3>
<p dir="ltr"><strong>Self-mastery is often defined as self-control. </strong><strong>To be the master of one’s self is to fully understand who you are.</strong></p>

<h3>PATTERNS &amp; ADOPTING CHANGE</h3>
<p dir="ltr">We may notice that we, our relationships, our business, even our physiology and body is in a constant state of flux. This constant change of our environments is a part of the natural flow.</p>
<p dir="ltr">“The only thing that seems to be constant, is change itself” &#8211; Catherine Connolly.</p>
<p dir="ltr">Nature is always changing and adapting, and is providing us with hints to these changes. Seasonally, we can predict the change through aspects of the environment adjusting, for example the change in colour of the leaves and then falling to the ground; we recognise and can predict this as moving from summer into autumn.</p>
<p dir="ltr">We have learnt from this change that we need to adapt to the different aspects within the environment; wearing more layers, harvesting food, and understanding the changes in other aspects of life which come from this one change.</p>
<p dir="ltr">If we pay attention to these changes we can prepare for it. <em>When we’ve become skilful at pattern recognition, we can be ready in all aspects of life and relationships.</em>  It can be very empowering, learning to adapt and adopting change.</p>
<h3>BREATH WORK</h3>
<p dir="ltr">Breathing is constant, and we only recognise it when there is a change in pattern, or when observing it. Breathing from your gut is deeper and more engaging, whereas breathing from your upper body is shallower and supports panic and fear based responses. When we are aware of a change in the pattern of breath we can learn to manage it; breathing longer and deeper to calm us.</p>

<p dir="ltr"><em>Changing the pattern changes our emotional state. </em><em>Conscious breathing engages our body into a calm state, and brings us into the present.</em></p>
<p dir="ltr"><strong>The level of anxiety within our society is escalating, and one way to help with that is breath work and providing mental clarity through conscious breathing, this in turn will change our responses.</strong></p>
<p dir="ltr">Something different, like Covid was is a big one, but any small change or something out of the ordinary tends to naturally invoke our survival instinct.</p>
<p dir="ltr">It&#8217;s just part of what the brain does. Be able to have a look, notice the pattern and then reconnect to your breath so that you can start to think clearly and work out the most effective response.</p>
<p><strong>Think: </strong>What is it that&#8217;s going on? What&#8217;s the pattern? What do I need to do? And become flexible rather than get scared.</p>
<h3>STATE OF UNKNOWN</h3>
<p dir="ltr">There is often an element of not knowing or understanding situations and concepts, and we can be fearful of admitting that we don&#8217;t know or aren&#8217;t okay. In a situation of leadership or unknown we  may fear being vulnerable. We can learn very quickly not to ask questions or put ourselves into positions of unknown, and that is evident from childhood into adulthood.</p>
<p dir="ltr">We have worked with people in high leadership positions, CEO’s, leaders, managers, who do not want to show their team members that they are unsure because they do not want to appear stupid or silly. <em>But, that&#8217;s why you&#8217;ve got teams.</em><em> Everyone&#8217;s got their skills and their benefits.</em></p>
<p dir="ltr">Growing greatness is being willing to be open and curious and take yourself off the thinking that you do know everything, or you need to know everything, that you actually know what to do because we&#8217;re in a constantly changing environment and business world.</p>
<p dir="ltr"><em>If we&#8217;re able to be willing to be vulnerable, humble, curious, and think ‘let me look at what&#8217;s going on’, it will allow us to open and recognize different patterns and therefore open up possibilities, innovation, and successful proactivity.</em></p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Do you know the difference between self-esteem and self-confidence? These are terms I often hear clients use when discussing how they feel and conclude that their levels are low.</p>



<p>Self-esteem is how you feel about yourself, while self-confidence is about your beliefs in relation to achieving your goals. Both are created in the imagination centre of your brain&#8217;s Default Network. Understanding that these ideas are habits of your own imagination that have become NeuroCoded, means you have the power to change them more easily than you might have thought.</p>



<p>Interestingly, low self-esteem can be linked to anxiety and depression, but it does not relate to your success rate in life. However, raising your self-esteem can improve your physical health by reducing stress through the hippocampus, which is part of the Learning Network in your brain.</p>
<p>As we set higher intentions to experience something different, obstacles can appears in order for you to develop and grow to meet your intention.</p>
<p>A lack of confidence is about you putting your attention on the obstacle and allowing yourself to talk you out of going for your goal and lowering the bar.  You can choose to own the importance of your intention and realise a new way of managing your energy, emotions and thoughts are needed to find the solutions that will move you forward to your outcome.  Get curious about what you can think, do and choose to feel differently  and code new powerful patterns.</p>



<p><strong>Here’s a challenge to help recode your brain pattern:</strong> Spend a few minutes each evening noting your daily successes. Even the smallest thing, like getting out of bed, counts.</p>



<p><strong>Consistency is key! </strong>Research shows that writing down small successes consistently for seven days can continue to boost self-esteem and confidence for the next six months. Teach your imagination to focus differently, and your patterns will shift. <strong>Hint:</strong> Keep this habit going and watch your world change.</p>



<p>For an extra boost, after the seven days, write a big list of your strengths and positive qualities and celebrate them. You can also ask friends and colleagues what they see as your strengths and qualities. Reflecting on their feedback can greatly enhance your self-worth.</p>
